Trichology and You

trichologyWe’ve received a lot of inquiries about Trichology and what it really is and if it is a real thing or just a gimmick. Let’s begin with what Trichology is, and this will help answer the other questions as well.

Trichology is the para-medical science of the hair, hair loss and associated scalp problems. It encompasses the study of the diseases of the human hair and scalp, as well as the assessment of the cause(s) and treatment of these disorders.

The word “trichology” comes from the Greek word, ‘Trikhos’, meaning ‘hair’, and was first conceived as a specialty branch of study in Britain in the late 19th century. It then became a specific para-medical discipline in 1902.

Today, trichology is perceived as the “bridge between cosmetology and dermatology.”

Hair FolliclesAs for being a gimmick, I am sure there are those individuals and businesses who try to sell you something, and claim it is a trichological solution or treatment, just to increase there cash flow, but unless it truly addresses your hair and scalp from a holistic perspective, then odds are it is a gimmick. The fact is, when applied properly, the study of trichology and how it involves you and your hair and scalp is quite remarkable, especially when putting together a viable solution to prevent further hair loss as well as restore your existing hair. Since we focus on non-sugical solutions that address thinning hair and hair loss, it is of the utmost importance to understand what it is that is causing your hair to fall out. The only way to do this is to conduct a proper trichological exam. Then and only then can a proper treatment protocol be put together to address your specific needs.

Sure there are many products for oily hair, dry scalp, etc., but most, if not all of them are purely a cosmetic solution, one that is trying to appeal to the masses, and of course share holders, rather then you and your specific needs. We have partnered with Cesare Ragazzi, a world leader in both hair replacement and trichological testing and products.
